Crisis Communication Training

Aims

To enhance the pre-emptive management of crisis issues and the periphery-center communications.

Strategy

In agreement with Cofely Communications Director, in the first semester of 2010 Competence designed and carried out Media relations training dedicated to frontline staff. The focus of training was to raise awareness and prepare the staff specifically with respect to the preventative management of crisis communications and the facilitation of a timely flow of information to the central communications office.

Activities

Design of specific training consisting of a theoretical introduction on the media scenario and the management of media relations along with a practical section with drills and interview simulations on critical issues. All of the drills were filmed and reviewed together with the managers involved to improve both contents/key messages and non-verbal communication.

Results

From February 4 to May 25 2010 Competence managed:

  • 9 individual sessions
  • 2 collective sessions: communications team and area directors, 25 managers involved in total

The critical issues were handled thanks to the awareness actions carried out. The activity was also repeated in 2011 for new managers.
